Nothing Gold Can Stay …

In 1983, long before they were big movie stars – Matt Dillon, Ralph Macchio, C Thomas Howell, Patrick Swayze, Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez and Tom Cruise – all acted together in a movie. Its one of the better movies I’ve seen. Loved it. It was based on a book by S.E. Hilton. And was directed by Francis Ford Coppola.

And yet , despite all that, in my limited view, it remains a under-watched – and under rated movie.

The Outsiders, is highly recommended viewing, one of these weekends.

And whats that got to do with cricket ? Nothing, apart from a little poem in the movie  called Nothing Gold Can Stay.

Ok, that still doesnt have anything to do with cricket. But its watch-out-seniors day, and Brian Lara’s quit and I feel all gooey.

If you want to feel similar , read this wonderful (tho old) piece by Peter Roebuck called Fade to Grey.

  1. True story – we were watching “Sarkar” on DVD at a friend’s place. His uncle was there – huge movie buff. But he was not in the audience for this one.
His reason- “Watching Amitabh Bachchan now reminds me of my mortality”.

Both he and Bachchan are of the same age.

    I am all melancholy now.

  2. Hey Homer ,

    I know just what you mean…when I hear Sachin’s past it at 34 ….

Maybe we should start concentrating on the other big event of the day – the shaadi !!
